Beer #58 - Woodrows Veto / Baylands Brewery

Beer #58 - W/C 4 April 2016

BREWERY // Baylands Brewery is named after the the Wellington street where Aiden, Steve & Nikki started brewing in a double garage back in late 2012. Their kegged beers quickly gained popularity and more than a few awards along the way. Having outgrown the garage, Baylands is now based in a warehouse in Petone from where they also run a brew store. Last year they started the brilliant initiative of Karma Kegs, where one keg per week is tapped at the Queen of Jackson pub with drinkers paying what they like and all takings going to charity. The Baylands team love making good beer and sharing their knowledge and passion with home-brewers. Be sure to them a visit next time you're in Petone.

TASTING NOTES // On October 27th 1919 US President Woodrow Wilson vetoed the Volstead Act to prohibit intoxicating beverages. Unfortunately the veto was immediately overridden which was the beginning of 13 dry years of prohibition for Americans. With this big, fruity American IPA, the Baylands crew salute Wilson's failed attempt. True to style, this IPA is all about the hops with lots of classic American "C" hop flavour. Loads of aroma and juicy hop flavour of cut grass, citrus and resin is supported by a touch of sweetness and medium body from the malt bill.
