Beer #104 - Omnipollo / Nebuchadnezzar

Beer #104 - W/C 20 February 2017

BREWERY // Henok Fentie & Karl Grandin started Omnipollo in 2011 as a new kind of brewery. Henok was a longtime home brewer turned pro and Karl an artist and designer. “Me and Karl work independently,” says Fentie. “I write recipes and brew and Karl creates art, yet we’re in constant conversation about what influences us at a specific time”. They conceive different recipes at home and travel to different breweries around the world to brew them. Within a very short time Omnipollo entered the RateBeer Top 100 Brewers in the World and there they have stayed there with their prolific releases of fearlessly experimental beers. Recently we've seen a range of dessert themed beers from Henok with the Buxton/Omnipollo Ice Cream series as well as beers including a Imperial Marzipan Coffee Cream Stout and Old Fashioned Lemonade IPA.

BEER //
When Morpheus captained the Nebuchadnezzar in search of The One, Neo, he could have had no idea that one day a beer bearing the name of his hovercraft would emerge as one of the truly great IIPA's of our time. Omnipollo have  reputation for making glorious beers and Neb is their highest rated IPA with a respectable 99 rating on RateBeer. Aroma is a veritable fruit bowl with lychee, mango, blood orange, pineapple and kiwifruit from the hops. The flavour echoes the aroma but is cut through with 100IBU citrus-peel bitterness. The bitterness is tempered somewhat by the biscuit caramel flavour from the malts and you may detect a touch of spice from the Belgian yeast. Overall a very complex and very smooth beer. Nebuchadnezzar is brewed at De Proefbrouwerij in Belgium, an extremely high tech rental brewery and favourite of other gypsy brewers including Mikkeler, To Øl and Trillium.
