Beer #230 - Tinker Tailor / American Brown Ale

Beer #230 - W/C 15 July 2019

BREWERY // John, Tim & Erica launched Tinker Tailor 2 years ago as the only brewery in Porirua, Wellington. They officially launched at Beervana so if you're attending this year be sure to visit their stand and wish them Happy Birthday. Their name comes from the split personality approach they have to crafting recipes. The 'Tailor' beers are about perfecting and refining classic styles while the 'Tinker' releases are about playing with convention and embracing innovation and unexpected flavours. It's good fun to try their Tinker beers next to their Tailor counterparts and debate the relative merits of both. The Plimmerton brewery has a cellar door where you can meet the team and buy beer fresh from the tanks.

BEER // The American Brown Ale is a relatively modern style which dates back to early American homebrewers who took inspiration from English brown ales and porters. The malt bill means the style sits somewhere in between those two and they ramped up the bitterness with relatively large dosings of hops. It's a timeless classic which we're surprised isn't more popular in New Zealand. This beer is from the 'Tailor' division of Tinker Tailor - the symphony of malts has been meticulously crafted resulting in lots of chocolate and caramel flavours. Malts are definitely the hero in this classic Brown Ale and the hops give it a long bitter finish to balance the sweetness well. It's delicious by itself and even better paired with food.

We look forward to seeing your reviews, photographs and food pairings in the Beer Jerk Members Facebook Group and on Untappd!
