Beer #340 - Theoretical Brewer / The 1st Finch

Beer #340 - W/C 23 August 2021

BREWERY // Doug’s job working as a chemical and materials engineer meant he has a lot of transferable skills when he decided to get into brewing. In a story as old as time, his wife bought him a home brewing kit and Doug quickly caught the bug. As his knowledge grew so did his equipment and in 2015 he registered the microbrewery in his Taranaki garage as a commercial operation. The brewery outgrew the garage and is now the biggest in the region. The Theoretical Brewer also has a taproom in New Plymouth pouring their core range as well as test brews from the pilot brewery.

BEER // Much like the Galapagos finches that evolved to perfectly suit their environment, this beer evolved over countless iterations to become Doug's perfect Pale Ale. A lot of drinkers get excited about new releases but core range beers are the ones that have been honed to perfection. The 1st Finch is a clean and fruity ale which is all about balance. The rounded, slightly biscuity maltbill is a lovely base for the blend of NZ, American & Australian hops which bring layers of tropical fruit with a slightly bitter finish.

We look forward to seeing what you all think in the Beer Jerk Members Facebook Group. If you enjoy the beer, be sure to check it in on Untappd!
