Beer #84 - Weezeldog / Hoppiness XPA

Beer #84 - W/C 3 October 2016

BREWERY // Weezledog is Mark Jackman with a little help from his wife Marie (accounts) and daughter Ruby (moral support). Right now Mark creates the beer, designs the labels, runs the website, marketing, sales, deliveries... You get the idea. In his spare time he is the brewer at Black Sands. Like most brewers he began as an enthusiastic home-brewer and, wonderfully, Mark shares the recipes for each beer in the range.

TASTING NOTES // Another exclusive beer which was bottled just for Beer Jerk members! If you've had a beer from Weezledog before, you'll know that Mark doesn't hold back with the hops. That is the case here- this XPA isn't as big and bitter as a classic NZIPA but it has a lot of aroma from the Southern Cross and Wai-iti hops. The base of pale and pilsner malts makes for a light and refreshing summery beer and with wheat adding a little body. There is also some sour malt in the recipe to 'lower the PH and let the hops shine' which sounds a bit complicated to us but we love the result. Mark has tinkered with the recipe since this first batch and will be releasing Hoppiness MkII soon. Watch the video below to hear what he has to say.
